Tower packing material is divided into ceramic, plastic and metal three categories.
Ceramic packing has good corrosion resistance and heat resistance, it has a good surface wettability. Brittle, fragile is its biggest disadvantage. It is widely used in gas absorption, gas washing, liquid extraction and other processes.
The material of plastic packing mainly includes polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Plastic packing has good corrosion resistance, and can resist the corrosion of general inorganic acids, bases and organic solvents. It has good temperature resistance and can be used below 100℃ for a long time.
Plastic packing is light in weight, cheap in price, has good toughness, impact resistance, not easy to break, can be made into thin wall structure. It has high flux and low pressure, and is mainly used for absorption, desorption, extraction, dust removal and other devices.
The disadvantage of plastic packing is that the surface wettability is poor, but the surface wettability can be improved by proper surface treatment.
Metal packing can be made of a variety of materials, the main consideration when choosing corrosion.
Carbon steel packing cost is lower, and it has good surface wettability, for non corrosion or low corrosion should be given priority to use.
Stainless steel packing corrosion resistance is strong, general resistance in addition to chlorine system of common material corrosion, but its cost is higher, and the surface wettability is poor, in some special occasions (such as very low spray density pressure distillation process), need to its surface treatment, in order to achieve good use effect. Titanium, special alloy steel and other materials made of filler cost is very high, generally only in some highly corrosive material system under the use.
Generally speaking, metal packing can be made into thin wall structure, its flux is large, gas resistance is small, and has high impact resistance, can be used in high temperature, high
pressure, high impact strength, a wide range of applications.
