How to choose packing material for some common towers? The type of tower packing material used in each tower is different. Let's analyze how to choose packing through efficiency, flux, pressure drop, operating performance, etc.

1. Mass efficiency

Mass transfer efficiency is separation efficiency. There are two ways of expression: one is the method of calculating the theoretical level, which indicates the height of the packing layer at each theoretical level, that is, the heTP value; the calculation method is expressed as the height of the packing layer that each mass transfer unit hopes to achieve, that is, the HTU value. Under the premise of meeting the process, high quality and high efficiency should be selected, that is, low quality packing (or HTU) value is low. For commonly used industrial packing, HETU (or HTU) values can be found in relevant manuals or literature, and can also be estimated by some empirical formulas.

2. Packing flux

Under the same liquid load, the higher the open porosity of the packing or the larger the gas phase kinetic energy factor, the larger the flux and the greater the processing capacity of the tower. Therefore, when selecting the type of packing, it should be selected under the premise of high permeability of the packing type with high flooding rate or gas phase kinetic energy factor. For most commonly used fillers, their flooding speed or gas phase kinetic energy factor can be found in relevant manuals or literature, or estimated by some empirical formulas.

3. Pressure drop of the packing layer

The pressure drop of the packing layer is the main application performance of the packing. The lower the pressure drop of the packing layer, the lower the energy consumption and the lower the operating cost. There are two ways to compare the pressure drop of the packing. One is to compare the pressure drop per unit height/z; the other is to compare the pressure drop per unit layer/nt. The pressure drop of the packing layer can be calculated by the formula formula, or it can be found from the relevant charts.

4. Operational performance of the packing

The operating performance of the filling machine mainly refers to the operational flexibility, stains and thermal properties of the items. The selected packing should have greater operational flexibility to ensure stable operation when the gas-liquid load in the tower fluctuates. At the same time, it should also have a certain anti-stall and heat resistance to adapt to the changes in the materials in the tower and the changes in temperature.
