Pall ring packing is annular in shape, with a large middle hole and a small ring diameter, and is usually made of materials such as ceramics, metals and plastics. The arrangement of the Pall ring packing can affect the packing density and gas-liquid distribution of the packing, thereby affecting the mass transfer and reaction efficiency of the tower. This article will introduce several common arrangements of Pall ring packing
1. One-way flow arrangement
The one-way flow arrangement is to spread the packing layer by layer in the tower so that the fluid can only flow in one direction. The advantage of this arrangement is that it is easy to install and it is not easy to cause packing agglomeration. However, unidirectional flow arrangements have some disadvantages. First of all, the gas-liquid flows through the packing layer for a long distance, and the mass transfer and reaction efficiency is low. Secondly, the pressure drop of the gas-liquid flowing through the packing layer is large, and the energy consumption is high.
2. Cross Flow Arrangement
The cross-flow arrangement is to stack the packing in the tower in a 45-degree cross direction. This arrangement can increase the gas-liquid contact area and improve mass transfer and reaction efficiency. In addition, the cross-flow arrangement can shorten the distance for the gas-liquid to flow through the packing layer and reduce the pressure drop of the gas-liquid flow. However, the installation of the cross-flow arrangement is more difficult and prone to packing agglomeration.
3. Oblique Flow Arrangement
The oblique flow arrangement is to arrange the packing in the tower obliquely at 45 degrees. This arrangement can make the gas-liquid rotate along the packing surface, increase the contact area of the gas-liquid, and improve the mass transfer and reaction efficiency. In addition, the oblique flow arrangement can reduce the distance of gas-liquid flowing through the packing layer and reduce the pressure drop of gas-liquid flow. However, the installation of the oblique flow arrangement is difficult, and the packing is prone to agglomeration.
Four, multi-layer arrangement
The multi-layer arrangement is to divide the packing into several layers, and each layer of packing is arranged in the tower according to different arrangements. This arrangement can take advantage of the advantages of different arrangements to improve mass transfer and reaction efficiency. For example, the upper packing can be arranged in an oblique flow manner, and the lower packing can be arranged in a one-way flow arrangement.
