Ceramic saddle rings are ceramic random packing materials primarily composed of silicon dioxide (SiO₂) and aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃), manufactured through high-temperature sintering. They exhibit properties such as resistance to strong acids, high-temperature tolerance, and high compressive strength (acid resistance ≥99.9%, alkali resistance ≥88%, compressive strength ≥10 N/mm²). Designed as an improvement over traditional saddle rings, they feature serrated or corrugated protrusions on smooth curved sides and added perforations on the saddle back, optimizing fluid pathways to significantly enhance mass transfer efficiency and reduce pressure drop.
The surface of ceramic saddle rings incorporates a serrated/corrugated design and integrated curved channels, which increase gas-liquid contact area, reduce flow dead zones, and improve mass transfer efficiency by guiding gas along curved paths and minimizing liquid wall flow. Internal perforations further promote multidirectional gas and liquid flow, increasing porosity (77%-84%) and reducing resistance.
Ceramic saddle rings demonstrate exceptional corrosion and high-temperature resistance, tolerating most inorganic acids, organic acids, and solvents (except hydrofluoric acid, HF). They are particularly suitable for highly corrosive environments like sulfuric acid drying towers and can operate within a temperature range of -40°C to 1000°C, making them ideal for high-temperature drying or low-temperature condensation processes.
Applications
Ceramic saddle rings are widely used in industrial tower equipment requiring efficient mass transfer and corrosion resistance. Typical applications include:
Sulfuric acid drying towers: Leveraging their sulfuric acid resistance for gas drying and purification in sulfuric acid production.
Absorption and scrubbing towers: Treating harmful components in chemical exhaust gases (e.g., desulfurization, denitrification) or wastewater.
Cooling and regeneration towers: Medium cooling or solvent regeneration in metallurgy and coal gas industries.
Petrochemical and environmental sectors: Applications such as petroleum distillation and VOC recovery.
