The packed tower is a mass transfer device that uses the packing in the tower as a gas-liquid contact. It has many advantages such as large flux, high efficiency, low pressure drop, and small liquid holdup. But how should the packed tower be handled when it fails?
1. Random packing installation quality problems: 1). The bulk packing is too loose, and the spacing between the regular packing discs or the tower wall is large; 2). The packing is deformed or damaged. Failure phenomenon: the tower pressure drop is small and the separation efficiency is poor; the tower pressure drop is large and the operating upper limit is low. When operating under low load, the tower separation efficiency is higher. Treatment method: reinstall the packing according to the design requirements.
2. Packings of different types or models are installed in the wrong position in the tower. Failure phenomenon: the design load cannot be reached. Treatment method: reinstall the tower packing according to the design requirements.
3. The packing is corroded. Failure phenomenon: the tower pressure drop fluctuates, and the separation efficiency is very poor. Treatment method: use corrosion-resistant materials and replace the packing.
4. The packing is blocked by materials, etc., and the plastic packing softens. Fault phenomenon: large resistance, poor separation efficiency, low upper limit of operation. Treatment method: clean or replace the packing.
